Australian Open kicks off!

In the current climate and with so many hurdles to get over, many would be forgiven for thinking that the Australian Open might not actually get off the ground, but the event finally kicked off in the early hours of this morning in Melbourne.

There are no Junior events this year, but a few of our past Grantees are in the main draw and we wish them luck in their various matches.

With Kyle Edmund still suffering with a knee injury, it was left to Katie Boulter to represent Tennis First in the main singles draw. Sadly, she lost out in the first round to the Russian player, Daria Kasatkina (71 in WTA rankings). However, Katie (ranked at 371 after a lengthy spell out with a back injury in 2019), had a great week in the Australian Open warm up events, where she managed to stun American teenager Coco Gauff 3-6 7-5 6-2. There are many positives to take with her after her stint in Australia and we look forward to watching her progress over the next few months.

In the Mens' doubles event, last year's winner, Joe Salisbury is back to defend his title with partner Rajeev Ram, and Luke Bambridge has paired up with fellow Brit, Dom Inglot. Good luck to all involved!
