Knight and Watson Win Junior Masters Titles
Grantees Megan Knight and Scott Watson won the prestigious 14U Tennis Europe Junior Masters titles in Monte-Carlo to round off a successful season which saw them also lift British National Championship titles earlier in August.
En route to the finals, Megan finished at the top of her group based on a games won percentage after winning two out of three match. Megan became the first British player to ever win the girls’ singles title after beating third seed Katerina Zajickova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 in the final.
After the match, Megan told Tennis Europe reporters :
“It was a good match, a high level. Of course, the conditions were tough. The court got heavy and the ball was heavy so it became more of a tactical game, to see who could outlast the other.”
On the boys’ side, Scott came out on top in the final against Spanish junior Toni Escarda Piñeiro after a gruelling three set thriller, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Scott was unbeaten all week, winning all three of his group matches before progressing to the final rounds. Scott is currently ranked joint second the European rankings and is one of three British players in the top four which include fellow Grantees Eric Lorimer and Niall Pickerd-Barua.
A huge achievement and a great to see both players playing such great tennis at this level. Well done!
