Past Grantees shine on grass
It was a great week for rising British talent last week and Tennis First was proud to watch some of our past Grantees hit the big time!
Jack Draper reached the quarter finals of the Cinch Championships at Queen’s Club, showing grit and a superb handling of pressure, especially playing in front of a British crown in his first major grass tournament.
On his way to the quarter finals, Jack took out both Jannick Sinner who is in the ATP top 25 and was the number three seed, followed by Alexander Bublik who is ranked in the ATP top 40. These were Jack's first career ATP Tour main draw wins and has seen him rise to number 250 in the ATP rankings, a new career high for him. He eventually lost to fellow Brit, Cameron Norrie 6-3 6-3, who went on to make the final. What a fantastic week for Jack!
In other news, still on the grass, Aidan Mchugh and Anton Matusevich claimed their first ATP challenger main draw wins in Nottingham, both beating players ranked much higher than themselves. Anton went on to reach the quarter finals. Another great achievement for the young players.
Emma Raducanu claimed her first ITF W100k main draw win, by reaching the quarter finals in Nottingham. We are all very excited to watch her play at Wimbledon!
