Lacy and Pow Claim National Titles

Isabelle Lacy (pictured) and Luca Pow won the 18 Junior National Championships at the National Tennis Centre this month in Roehampton. The win also secures them both a wild card into the qualifying draw for the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.

Isabelle managed to turn the final around after trailing a set and a break down against Hannah Klugman to come out on top, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. The match started outdoors but had to be finished indoors due to rain after a long delay.

Isabelle spoke to the LTA after her match and reflected "She was serving really well outside and had more time on her shots, but I had a chance to talk to my coach and managed to change it in my favour. I served a lot better inside and managed to turn it around. I wasn't thinking about the Wimbledon wild card during the match, but that is just my biggest dream. It's going to be so exciting. I'm so happy."

For the second year running Luca Pow won the 18U Junior National Championships after a 7-6(3), 6-3 win against 16-year-old Oliver Bonding.

Luca spoke to the LTA post match and recalls "Hopefully I can be a little less nervous when I play Wimbledon qualifying this time, I feel really happy to have another opportunity. This was the first time I played Olly in a competitive match so we were both going into it a little blind. We used to practice together, but you never know how it's going to turn out until you play a match. It was tricky conditions. It was so cold and you have to deal with the elements when you are playing outdoors, but it feels great to win this tournament again."

We are sure that with another year of playing on the junior circuit, the experience will help Luca prepare for the upcoming Qualifying event and he can use this to his advantage when he plays.

Congratulations on a brilliant week of tennis to all those who took part and we look forward to a summer of grass court tennis ahead.
