Grantees Win National Championships

The 2019 National Tennis Championships took place this week with several grantees taking home titles.

Ben Gusic Wan won both the singles and doubles 12&U National Tennis Championships. In the singles draw Ben came through two tough three setters to reach the final where he beat his doubles partner Pranav Devaguptapu 6-1, 7-5. In doubles, Ben and Pranav won four matches to claim the title.

Mimi Xu won an impressive five matches without dropping a set en route to becoming the 12&U National Champion. Mimi beat Amelia Brooks 6-2, 6-1 in the final. In the doubles event she took home the trophy with partner Hannah Klugman after beating number one seeds, Abby Kelliher and Erin Pearce, in the final.

In the boys 14&U event, Phoenix Weir reached the semi-finals losing in three sets to Ralph Bartlett. Phoenix went on to be crowned 14&U National Doubles Champion with partner Ben Hudson. Former grantee Luca Pow won the singles title after a week of very high level tennis.

In the 14&U girls draw, Ranah Akua Stoiber was runner up after a tough battle in the final against Jaquelyn Ogunwale 6-2, 0-6, 6-3.

Isabelle Purser claimed the 16&U National Doubles Championship with partner Catherine Hodge, after they were able to clinch the final 12-10 in the third set tie breaker.

Well done to all of the grantees and former grantees on their impressive performances this week.
