Grantees win at The Lexus Junior National Championships

The Lexus Junior National Championships concluded with great success and vital learning experiences for our young grantees.

Hollie Smart overcame Edie Griffiths 6-3, 6-2 in the 14U singles final, after advancing through the draw without dropping a set. The grantee duo later teamed up to lift the doubles title to round up a very positive summer for both girls.

In the boy’s event, seventh seed Niall Pickered-Barua won the 14U singles title with a win against Eric Lorimer 6-1, 6-3 in a strong performance by the grantee from South Wales.

Wildcards Rhys Lawlor and Leo wright picked up the boys 14U doubles title with a straightforward win 6-2, 6-1 against Oluwajomiloju Aminu and Pavana Nrshinga.

In the 12U event, Liv Zingg, continued in impressive form claiming the title with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Khadija Adeniran. Liv formed part of the GB team who finished second at Tennis Europe’s Summer Cup. Liv Zingg also claimed the national doubles title with partner Leah Bush.

Harry Swain and partner Samuel Riley put out number one seeds in the boys 12U doubles final to lift the trophy with a 7-5, 7-5 win against Oliver Westbrook and Myles Kiely.

Sophia Cuninghame came through a close three set battle 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 against fellow grantee Ginny Chen to claim the 11U singles title. Ginny then partnered with Isabella Rebel to close out the double final in a championship tie-break 2-6, 6-0, 10-6.

Oskar laskowski and Pekko Pfundstein claimed the boys U11 doubles titles with a 6-0, 6-2 convincing victory over Joseph Knightly and partner Frederick Fabricius.

The National Championships bring together juniors of the highest level and it is great to see our grantees competing against the best in the country.
