Grantees Compete in 16U & 18U LTA Youth National Series in Nottingham

We saw many of our grantees, past and present, take part in the new LTA Youth National Series last week. It was launched earlier this year to get more children to play and stay in tennis, whatever their ability and whatever their background.

Taking the 16U Week 1 title in Nottingham was our grantee Phoenix Weir. He won 4 matches to claim the trophy and beat Jonah Gethin 7-6 (0), 6-1 in the final. Grantees Henry Searle reached the semi-finals and Fabio Nestola won the consolation draw.

In the 18U Boys event, former grantees faced off as Jack Pinnington Jones beat Lui Maxted 6-2, 6-3 in the final to bring home the title. 2020 grantees Will Nolan reached the semi-finals and Matthew Rutter won the consolation draw.

In the Girls event, grantee Amelia Bissett came through a championship tie break against Eva Shaw to win the tournament, 6-2, 2-6, 10-5. Grantees Sofia Johnson and Mimi Xu reached the semi-finals and Hannah Smith won the consolation draw.

Good luck in Week 2.

Ian Yates, Head of the National Performance Pathway at the LTA, said: “The LTA Youth National Series is a really innovative series of events, providing young players across all stages of the LTA Player Pathway with the opportunity to compete in multiple level-based matches. We hope attending players are looking forward to playing a fast-paced high volume schedule, and we’re really looking forward to seeing lots of great action on court throughout the events and inviting the winners to join us for the Finals for the 14U to 10U age groups later in the year”.
