Grantees Compete at the Junior Davis Cup Finals

Last week three Tennis First grantees formed Great Britain’s Junior Davis Cup team in Lake Nona, Orlando for the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Finals. Jack Pinnington Jones, Derrick Chen and Lui Maxted competed in the event among the world’s top 16 teams.

The first stage was a round robin, the team beat Bolivia and Canada 3-0 before losing out to top seeds USA 2-1.

Finishing second in their group meant they qualified for the knockout stage. The team fell to Japan 2-1, a notable victory by Derrick against the Wimbledon Boy’s Singles champion Shintaro Mochizuki. Japan were the eventual winners overall.

The GB team went on to play a further two matches to determine their overall position, beating Hong Kong 2-1 and losing to Spain 2-1, placing the GB team 6th overall.

Well done to the grantees for a very high standard of tennis and impressive results. We are very proud of you.
