Grantee success in ITF event

As travelling to international tournaments has been so restricted, it was a huge relief for many of our Grantees to be able to play in an ITF event on home turf.

The ITF Junior J5 event took place in Stirling last week and a whole of host of Tennis First Grantees were involved with some excellent results in both the Girls and the Boys draws.

Hannah Smith (pictured far left) had a terrific week, making the finals of both the Singles and Doubles events, losing out to fellow Tennis First Grantee, Issey Purser (with her partner Hannah Read) in the doubles event and Millie Skelton in the Singles event.

Hannah beat fellow Grantee, Isabelle Lacy, in the semi finals who had taken out the number one seed along the way! Both Issey Purser and Guilia Lesa reached the quarter finals of the Singles events.

Lois Newberry made it through three rounds of qualifying and then reached the quarter finals of the Singles event (she also knocked out the number two seed in the main draw).

In the Boys' event, Fabio Nestola (pictured far right) reached the finals of the Singles, losing out in three sets to Roan Jones. Both Sam Reeve and Phoenix Weir reached the semi finals of the Singles event and Matthew Rankin and Sam Reeve (the number one seeds) took the title in the Doubles event.

It was great to see so many Grantees back competing again and we look forward to reporting on the next tournament!
