The 2019 World Team Tennis draft was held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden during the BNP Paribas Open last week. Each team comprises of two men, two women and a team coach and play a format that was co-founded in the 1970’s by Billie Jean King, in an attempt to win the King Trophy. Each match consists of five sets, with one set of men’s and women’s singles followed by doubles and mixed doubles. Four former Tennis First grantees will take part in the 2019 season.
Joe Salisbury was drafted to the defending champions, Springfield Lasers to join coach John-Laffnie de Jager. The Vegas Rollers, new to this years event and coached by Tim Blenkiron, drafted GB’s Jay Clarke and Harriet Dart. Luke Bambridge was also selected to play for the Orange County Breakers.
Play will begin in July as World Team Tennis enters its 44th season. Good luck to all of the British players and former Tennis First grantees.
