The 14 and under Tennis Europe Category 2 tournament in Milovice, Czech Republic, has been won by 13 year old Luca Pow. The Solihull left-hander, (pictured left) who trains with Gary Naughton at the David Lloyd Club at nearby Coventry, had an outstanding week. Judging by the scores he posted he was tested only once – by the home-grown Stepan Mrusek– winning 7-6 6-4. Otherwise his matches were dotted with 6-0 sets, including the final against another Czech – Vit Kalina.
Kalina had beaten another grantee, Hertfordshire’s Fabio Nestola, in the quarter final, but only after an epic encounter of over 3 hours. The Czech won 7-5 5-7 7-6 (4). Nestola, also 13 and pictured centre with coach John Trehearn, and Pow combined to win the doubles event, making it a rewarding week for both boys. So our congratulations to both on winning on foreign soil – a nice milestone on their tennis journey.
