Former grantee Evan Hoyt is on a 6 week tour of Australia and making a serious impression. In week 1 in Darwin, he lost to the Australian top seed Jeremy Beale in 3 sets and in week 2 he lost another tough 3 setter in the Cairns final against Yuta Shimizu (JAP) but won the doubles. But in Brisbane last week he won the $25k event, losing only one set all week. The 23 year old former Reed’s School scholar is now closing in on a career high ranking, proving that resilience and persistence in the face of adversity (he has plenty of injuries to contend with) are key qualities for athletes. So this is a welcome time in the sun with (we trust) more to come!
